GROUP THERAPY

Healing doesn’t have to happen in isolation. Our groups offer space to connect with others who get it—where your story is met with empathy, not judgment.

Group therapy offers a supportive and intentional space where individuals can come together around shared experiences to learn, heal, and grow in community. Whether you’re seeking connection, reflection, or mutual support, group therapy can help reduce isolation and foster belonging.

Being in a group of people who “get it” can be powerful. Group therapy connects individuals with others facing similar challenges—whether related to identity, grief, stress, relationships, or healing.

All groups are facilitated by our skilled therapists who create structure, hold safety, and guide conversation with care and intention.

Groups operate with clear community agreements around confidentiality, respect, and non-judgment, making space for vulnerability and connection.

We offer groups specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, BIPOC clients, neurodivergent clients, and others who benefit from identity-affirming support. Each group honours the lived experience of its members.

Group therapy can be a cost-effective and deeply meaningful way to access support—whether as a standalone resource or alongside individual therapy. At Rainbow Counselling, we believe that healing doesn’t have to happen alone. Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to witness and be witnessed in a community of care.

Individual counselling, also known as therapy or psychotherapy, is a type of mental health support that involves one-on-one interactions between a trained mental health professional and an individual seeking help. The purpose of individual counselling is to provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and challenges in order to improve their overall well-being and mental health.

Here are some key aspects of individual counselling:

  1. Confidential Environment: Individual counselling sessions are private and confidential. This allows individuals to freely discuss their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without fear of judgment or breach of privacy.
  2. Personalized Approach: Therapists tailor their approach to each individual’s unique needs, concerns, and goals. The focus of counselling can vary widely, from addressing specific issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma, to personal growth and self-improvement.
  3. Therapeutic Techniques: Therapists use a variety of therapeutic techniques and approaches to help individuals better understand themselves, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in their lives. These techniques can include dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, internal family systems, narrative therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and more.
  4. Goal-Oriented: Individual counselling often involves setting specific goals for the therapy process. These goals can be short-term (such as managing immediate distress) or long-term (such as improving overall life satisfaction).
  5. Self-Exploration: Through guided conversations with the therapist, individuals can gain insights into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This self-exploration can lead to greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of the factors influencing their life.
  6. Emotional Regulation: Individual counseling helps individuals learn techniques to manage and regulate their emotions in healthy ways. This can be especially helpful for individuals experiencing mood disorders, stress, or overwhelming emotions.
  7. Problem-Solving: Therapists work with individuals to identify and address challenges they’re facing. They can help individuals develop effective problem-solving skills and strategies for overcoming obstacles.
  8. Trauma and Healing: For individuals who have experienced trauma, individual counselling can provide a supportive environment to process and heal from traumatic experiences.
  9. Life Transitions: Counseling can be beneficial during major life transitions, such as career changes, coming into new identities, relationship challenges, or moving to a new location. Therapists can provide guidance and support through these changes.
  10. Non-Judgmental Support: Therapists are trained to provide non-judgmental and empathetic support. They offer a safe space for individuals to express themselves and work through difficult emotions without feeling criticized.
Individual Counselling entails a collaborative approach to your individual journey. Individual counselling aims to support you in working through your emotional and psychological struggles in a safe and supportive environment.  Regardless if you want to work through trauma, anxiety, depression, explore and or/unpack parts of your identity, or are seeking support in navigating everyday life. Some potential goals of individual therapy are to support you gain a better understanding of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and to develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. Rainbowcounselling values anti-oppressive and intersectional approaches to therapy. In this, our therapist’s acknowledge that your experiences are shaped by multiple and intersecting identities, such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, class etc. We recognize that systemic oppression can impact individuals’ mental health and well-being in unique ways based on these intersecting identities, and that counselling needs to address and challenge these dynamics. Therapist’s at rainbowcounselling aim to provide inclusive and affirming spaces for you to explore your experiences and challenges. We recognize the ways in which societal norms and structures can influence folks’ perceptions of themselves, their relationships, and their experiences, and work to address these dynamics. Individual counselling at rainbowcounselling acknowledges the complex and unique experiences of our individual clients and seeks to create a space that is supportive, validating, and empowering. Individual counselling can be short-term, focusing on specific issues or crises, or long-term, providing ongoing support for personal growth and development. The number of sessions and the duration of counseling depend on the individual’s needs and goals.
