Jay Makepeace

Meet Jay Makepeace

I offer a space where clients can get to know themselves and explore their history, identity, culture, and self-expression. I love working with clients who are queer and neurodivergent, parents and caregivers of queer children, and people navigating existential, spiritual, and religious tensions. Clients who work with me use the space to organize their lives, tell dark jokes, and figure out where they are, where they want to go next, and how to get there. If this sounds like a good fit, reach out for a free consultation and we can go from there!

Medical Trauma

I’ve learned how hard and rewarding it is to have strong relationships with ourselves, pets, other people, different communities, the land, and other non-humans. I also understand how uncomfortable it is to feel feelings, especially in the presence of others. That’s hard.. and I am unfortunately going to ask you to do it. :)
I am a white settler living in Treaty 6 territory, in what is now known as Alberta. I grew up near the Edmonton International Airport, on land my family ‘was given’ (colonized) in the late 1800s. I come from Danish bakers on my mom’s side and German farmers on my dad’s, which means I always sift my flour, and when I mow the lawn, my lines are impeccable. I have been deeply influenced by Cree and Métis cultures, through the land I live on and the time I spent on my first degree in Indigenous Studies. Additionally, I grew up knowing that my mom was born in Venezuela, and I think that has made me gravitate toward immigrants and their kids who also feel connected to places far away: places they may have never been to, cannot go back to, or that they only remember a little.
